DESCRIPTION:
This is a gorgeous douga of Michiru in her Mugen Academy winter uniform. The douga is marked "A6" and includes an animation time chart sheet as well as a non matching painted background, I'm unsure where or if this background was used.
This douga comes from episode 120, "An Invasion from Another Dimension: Mystery of Mugen Academy" in the third season, which aired on January 7th, 1995. The animation director for this episode was Katsumi Tamegai, who notably animated the first and final episodes of the Sailor Stars season, the Sailor Moon S and SuperS movies, as well as some very memorable episodes throughout all five seasons of the anime. One of my personal favorites from him is episode 106, "The Bond of Destiny! The Distant Days of Uranus", which explores Haruka and Michiru's past. I really enjoy how much emotion his style is able to capture, he may not be considered the best of the Sailor Moon animation directors, but he definitely had a very special role.
Douga are drawings used in the animation process, they are the cleaned up version of Genga which are rough sketches done by senior animators. Douga are essentially clean linework which is used to create the final animation cels. The lines of the douga are photocopied onto the celuloid sheet and then the colors are handpainted to create the complete cel.
CONDITION:
Very good condition, there is some minor creasing as shown in photos. This is original production artwork from late 1994 or early 1995, so there is some natural wear due to its age.
